Sometimes, On a day-to-day basis all you are doing is surviving
This is what Michael Gerber ( The E Myth) calls working IN your business and not ON your business. As trusted mentors, we help take the isolation feeling of being on your own and are always available as an independent sounding board. There will be days where you think you are paddling uphill and and you will jump in with all hands on deck. However, be careful that you don't get caught in thinking nothing happens without you being there. As mentors, we are your sounding board. We don't tell you how to run your business, we are able to challenge your thinking and suggest options for you to think through before you decide your next course of action. Then we follow up to keep you on track. It's always been hard for self-employed business owners to let go.

I remember a quote 'If want to know the future, you have to create it" Unless you are a large enterprise with endless cash to spend it's not financially practical to try and force a change in consumer buying habits. Success in any the market segment means you should focus on needs and not habits. However, you must be alert to changing trends. Make it your business to know what is going on around the world and the trends in your industry. Then you can develop guerrilla tactics to gain an advantage to your identified targets. Avoid constantly thinking about what your competitors are doing, Instead focus on your own unique strengths and your service offering. Don't be afraid to copy ideas that are working elsewhere. just make sure you don't breach copyright of infringe on intellectual property rights. It could be a case of "innovate in your business or die". When a next generation sibling is allowed to take advantage of their position as the son or daughter of an owner in a family business, I know the business will suffer decline in the future.
